Cape Town Holocaust and Genocide Centre

Holocaust education centre near the South African Jewish Museum

Opened in 1999, the Cape Town Holocaust Centre was the first dedicated Holocaust museum in Africa. The permanent exhibition uses photographs, documents and survivor testimony to trace the Holocaust in Europe and to draw explicit parallels with the racism, antisemitism and apartheid-era policies of twentieth-century South Africa.

It is a sober and serious museum, well organised, suitable for older children and adults. Allow 90 minutes. The centre sits in the same Hatfield Street complex as the South African Jewish Museum and the Great Synagogue.
