Waterfront Sunset Restaurant

Open-air bar on the Slipway pier — sunset drinks over the dhow harbour.

A simple long bar built on a wooden pier at the western tip of the Slipway, facing directly across the Msasani dhow harbour. The drink to order is a cold Serengeti at the railing fifteen minutes before sunset, when the dhows are coming in and the sky goes orange behind the silhouettes of the masts. The grill behind the bar serves prawns, calamari, and seasonal fish at fair prices.

The pier is wooden and lit by bare bulbs, with a small dance floor at the inland end. Tuesday is the standard quiz night; Friday and Saturday are the busiest. The whole Slipway complex shuts down by midnight; if you want to push on, the Msasani bars are five minutes by bajaji.
