The city sprawls and the heat is real, so plan to use motorised transport for any trip beyond the immediate centre. Bajaj (three-wheeled tuk-tuks) handle short hops cheaply, taxis are everywhere — agree the price before you get in — and ride-hailing apps (Uber, Bolt, Little) work well and are usually the easiest option. The DART bus rapid transit runs along Morogoro Road from the centre out past Ubungo and is fast and cheap. Old-style daladala minibuses still cover most other routes for a few hundred shillings, but they are crowded and confusing for first-timers. Walking around the colonial core during the day is fine; after dark, take a taxi everywhere.
