Uthina, also written Oudna, is a Roman site south of Tunis that feels refreshingly open after the city and the crowds at Carthage. The amphitheatre is the headline, partly reconstructed and large enough to make clear that this was once a substantial Roman town.
The site also has baths, cisterns, villas, and mosaics, though presentation can be uneven. It is best visited with transport arranged in advance or as part of a day that also looks beyond central Tunis, because public access is not as straightforward as the better-known coastal ruins.
