Tunis is the hub of northern Tunisia, and the country is small enough that many destinations make excellent day trips. Carthage and Sidi Bou Said are practically suburbs, reachable by the TGM train in under 30 minutes. Further afield, the Roman ruins at Dougga are among the best-preserved in Africa, and the resort towns of Hammamet and Nabeul are about an hour south by car or bus.
