The Uganda Museum, the oldest in East Africa, covers the country's history from prehistoric times through the colonial era. The most engaging section is the collection of traditional musical instruments — drums, harps, lyres, and thumb pianos — which visitors are encouraged to pick up and play. Other displays include ethnographic exhibits on the kingdom cultures of Buganda, Bunyoro, and Toro, plus a natural history wing with stuffed wildlife. It's a modest museum, but worth an hour for the instrument collection alone.
