Better known to most visitors as Entebbe Zoo, the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre sits on the shore of Lake Victoria and functions as much as a rescue facility as a zoo. Many of its animals were confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade or rehabilitated after being orphaned.
You can see lions, rhinos, chimpanzees, shoebills and a noisy collection of African grey parrots, with scheduled feedings through the day. The grounds are leafy and walkable, and it is an easy stop on the way to or from the airport.
