Ndere Cultural Centre

Kampala's best venue for traditional Ugandan music, dance, and drama

The Ndere Cultural Centre in Kisasi is the best place in Kampala to see traditional Ugandan performing arts. The centre stages weekly performances that showcase music and dance from across Uganda's many kingdoms and cultural groups — Buganda, Acholi, Kiga, Alur, and others — performed by a professional resident troupe. The shows run on Wednesday and Sunday evenings and attract a mix of Kampala residents and visitors.

The performances are participatory and high-energy, and the troupe is skilled. If you are in Kampala for more than a couple of days, this is one of the better ways to understand the cultural diversity of the country — Uganda has over 50 distinct languages and ethnic groups, and the centre represents that breadth. Book ahead on weekends; the centre also has a restaurant.
