Abdul Rahman Mosque

The largest mosque in Kabul, built over fifteen years and finished in 2012 — a vast modern structure with twin minarets, a central dome that can be seen from much of the city, and capacity for ten thousand worshippers. It sits just south of the Kabul river in the commercial Deh Afghanan district.

It is not historic, but the scale is striking and the interior, when accessible to non-Muslim visitors, is finished in white marble and Quranic calligraphy. Friday prayers fill it; non-Muslim visitors should not try to attend.
