Lake Qargha, more properly Qargha Reservoir, lies west of Kabul where the city gives way to drier hills and open water. For Kabul residents it has long been a place to breathe, picnic, and get out of the denser urban basin for a few hours.
Security and access conditions in Kabul can change quickly, so this is not a casual recommendation without current local advice. When it is practical to visit, the lake offers a rare combination for the city: water, space, and a cooler edge-of-town landscape.
