Cox’s Bazar is first and foremost about the beach — 120 km of unbroken sand along the Bay of Bengal — but the area rewards longer stays. Inani beach, 35 km south of town on dark coral-flecked sand, is quieter and prettier than the main town beach. The Buddhist village of Ramu makes a good half-day excursion. St. Martin’s Island and Maheshkhali Island are reached by boat and offer very different landscapes from the mainland. The Dulhazra Safari Park, 50 km north, has elephant rides and Bengal tigers.
