Flower Lane Church

Flower Lane Church (Huaxiang Christian Church) is a Protestant church in the historic heart of Fuzhou, founded in 1845 by American Methodist missionaries. It is one of the oldest Christian churches in Fujian and has been an active congregation continuously since its founding. The current building dates from the Republican era and has a Gothic-influenced facade unusual in the Chinese urban landscape.

Fuzhou was one of the centres of Protestant mission activity in 19th-century China, and the church has historical significance beyond its architecture. The neighbourhood around it has been restored as part of the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys precinct, and the contrast between the church and its surrounding traditional Chinese courtyard houses is striking.
