Yantai Mountain is one of Fuzhou's most atmospheric historic districts, a low hill above the Min River where foreign consulates, churches, schools, and villas once clustered. The architecture gives the area a different texture from the older lane-world of Three Lanes and Seven Alleys.
Recent restoration has made it easier to wander, but the appeal is still in the layers: shaded lanes, old walls, river glimpses, and buildings that show Fuzhou's treaty-port period without turning the whole place into a museum.
