West Lake Park is Fuzhou's old pleasure garden, a landscaped lake of causeways, small islands, pavilions, bridges, and shaded paths on the northwest side of the centre. It has been reshaped many times, but it still gives the city a classical breathing space rather than a simple municipal park.
The appeal is slow rather than spectacular. Walk the lake edge, cross the bridges, and combine it with the nearby Fujian Museum if you want a gentle cultural afternoon. Early morning brings tai chi, walkers, and the softest light on the water.
