The Longmen Grottoes are the main reason to visit Luoyang and rank among the greatest examples of Buddhist stone carving in Asia. The White Horse Temple outside the city is China's oldest Buddhist temple. In April, the city's famous peony gardens draw visitors from across the country during the annual Peony Festival.
