Things to Do

Dalian's appeal is built around three things: its colonial architecture, its beaches, and its parks. The grand roundabouts left by Russian and Japanese occupiers — especially Zhongshan Square — give the city centre a distinctly un-Chinese feel. Coloured trams still run through the streets. The southern coastline is lined with beaches, with Fujiazhuang the pick for swimming. Xinghai Square, one of the world's largest public plazas, anchors the southwestern waterfront.
