The Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Temple at Devuni Kadapa is the oldest temple in the city and the reason it carries the name it does. The shrine is small by south Indian standards — no soaring gopuram, no festival halls — but historically important: pilgrims on the road to the great Venkateshwara temple at Tirumala traditionally paid their respects here first, treating it as the symbolic threshold of the pilgrimage.
The temple is in Devuni Kadapa, about 2 kilometres east of the city centre. Hindu visitors only are admitted to the inner sanctum. Photography is not allowed inside; the surrounding compound is open to anyone.
