A large zoo on the eastern outskirts of Tirupati, set in 5,500 acres of forest that adjoins the Sri Venkateswara National Park. The collection covers most of India's flagship species — tigers, lions, leopards, sloth bears, elephants, gaur, and an extensive collection of native deer and antelope. The enclosures are larger than at most Indian zoos, taking advantage of the available land.
The zoo is open Tuesday to Sunday (closed Monday). A modest entry fee buys access to the main loop, which can be walked in 2–3 hours; a small train carries less mobile visitors. The site is significantly less crowded than the religious sights and makes a good half-day for families with children, or for a break from the temple circuit. Best visited in cooler mornings — animals are more active before midday.
