Things to Do

Vemulawada is essentially a one-temple pilgrimage town, and the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Temple complex is the whole point of a visit. The temple, its surrounding tank, and the ghats that line it form a compact sacred landscape that takes a morning to walk through properly. Beyond the temple precincts there is little else to see, but what is here repays a slow and attentive visit. Come early — the pre-dawn hours, when the ghats fill with pilgrims bathing before puja and the temple bells carry across the water, are the most atmospheric.
