The Living and Learning Design Centre at Ajrakhpur, a 30-minute drive north of Bhuj, is the most ambitious craft museum in Gujarat. The vast steel-and-stone complex, designed by Hindu architect Uttam Jain, houses three permanent galleries on Kutchi embroidery, weaving and dyeing, plus rotating exhibitions and working artisan studios.
Run by the NGO Shrujan, which has worked with Kutchi craftswomen since 1969, the centre is also a research and design school where weavers, embroiderers and block-printers train and develop new work. The displays are unusually well-curated — each embroidery style mapped to its community, the patterns explained, the makers credited. Closed Tuesdays. Combine with a visit to nearby Ajrakhpur village.
