Rajbagh

Rajbagh is the upscale residential neighbourhood south of Lal Chowk, where the better hotels, embassies, and government guesthouses are located. The area is quieter and more ordered than the old city or the Dal Lake tourist strip — wide, tree-lined roads, larger properties behind walls, relatively little commercial activity. Several of Srinagar's better restaurants and the most reliable coffee shops are in or near Rajbagh.

The neighbourhood is primarily useful as an orientation point for visitors staying in the upmarket hotels in this area, or as a pleasant place to walk in the evenings when the heat has dropped. It contains none of the historic monuments or cultural attractions found in the old city, but the contrast with the density of Downtown or the commerce of Lal Chowk makes it a reasonable place to decompress. The Residency Road border of Rajbagh leads directly to the restaurant strip; Maulana Azad Road running north leads toward Lal Chowk.
