Char Chinar, also known as Rupa Lank, is a small island in Dal Lake planted with chinar trees that give it its name. It is one of those Srinagar sights that works less as a monument than as a composition: water, mountains, trees, and the slow movement of shikaras.
Visit as part of a longer boat ride rather than making it the whole point. The island is simple, but the approach across the lake is beautiful, especially in soft morning or late-afternoon light. Conditions around Dal Lake change seasonally, so ask locally before setting out.
