Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve

Western Ghats forest with elephants, hornbills and river rafting

The Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve — officially Anshi National Park — covers over 800 square kilometres of Western Ghats forest northeast of Karwar. It is one of the few places in Karnataka where you stand a reasonable chance of seeing elephants, leopards, and a variety of hornbills. The Kali River runs through the reserve and is used for white-water rafting and kayaking from Dandeli, which makes a good base for a night or two in the forest. Karwar is about 117 kilometres from Dandeli by road.
