A small forested island about 15 kilometres south of Karwar, Kurumgad is home to a Shiva temple and a strip of quiet beach. Boats can be hired from Karwar or from the village of Binaga. The island sees far fewer visitors than the beaches around Goa and has a pleasantly unpolished atmosphere. The temple draws pilgrims, particularly during the Shivratri festival, but outside festival seasons you may have much of the beach to yourself.
