Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is a different side of the Munnar region: drier, thornier, and more open than the tea hills most visitors picture first. It protects forest, scrub, river valleys, and wildlife habitat on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, including the endangered grizzled giant squirrel.
This is a place for guided walks, wildlife patience, and a slower day in the Western Ghats. Do not expect guaranteed animal sightings, but do expect a landscape that broadens your sense of Munnar beyond plantations and viewpoints. Check forest-department rules before planning treks.
