Chhatris

The Chhatris are cenotaphs and tombs built for the Holkar rulers and their families, standing near the Khan River close to Rajwada. Their domes, carved stone, and Maratha detailing make them one of the more atmospheric historic stops in old Indore.

The main group is at Chhatri Baag, with another notable memorial nearby: Bolia Sarkar's Chhatri, built in 1858 for Sardar Chimnaji Appa Sahib Bolia. Come while exploring the old city, when the contrast between the busy market streets and the riverbank memorials is strongest.
