Duke's Nose

Cliff-nose viewpoint and short trek above Lonavala, with wide views over the Western Ghats.

Duke's Nose is the sharp basalt promontory visible from parts of Lonavala and Khandala, named for its profile and known locally as Nagphani. The short climb to the top is one of the area's classic half-day outings, trading the bustle of the hill station for open views over valleys, railway lines, and monsoon-green slopes.

The route is most rewarding after the rains, when the Western Ghats are at their greenest and waterfalls mark the cliffs. Go early, carry water, and take care near the exposed edges; the viewpoint is popular precisely because the drop feels immediate.
