Arthur's Seat is a rocky outcrop at the edge of the Mahabaleshwar plateau, offering a sheer 1,200-metre drop into the Savitri river valley and the Konkan plains below. On clear days the descent from the plateau to the coast is visible in a single sweeping view — forest, river, and eventually the haze above the Arabian Sea. This is the most dramatic viewpoint in Mahabaleshwar, the one that most captures the sense of standing at the edge of something.
The viewpoint is reached by a short walk from the road. A Tiger Spring just below the outcrop is a natural spring accessible by a steep path — the combination of the climb and the water source made it a significant site for the Marathas who built this plateau's fort towns. Mornings before 10am are clearest, and there is reliably a strong wind at the cliff edge. Avoid weekends from April to June when the path can be crowded.
