Kate's Point is one of the most-visited viewpoints on the western rim of the Mahabaleshwar plateau, looking down over the Dhom Dam reservoir and the Wenna valley with the Sahyadri ranges rising beyond. The viewpoint is accessible by car and has facilities (stalls, basic toilets), making it one of the more crowded stops on the standard plateau circuit.
Elphinstone Point, a few minutes further along the same road, offers a different angle over the Koyna valley toward the Konkan. Named after Mountstuart Elphinstone, the Governor of Bombay who made Mahabaleshwar famous in 1819, it is generally less crowded than Kate's Point and has better views in the afternoon. Both viewpoints are best in the dry season (October to May); in monsoon (June to September), both are completely lost in clouds and mist — making them a very different kind of experience.
