Chandaneshwar is a small temple village just across the Odisha border from West Bengal's Digha-Shankarpur coast. Travellers usually come as a short excursion from Digha or Shankarpur, not as a destination in its own right.
The focus is the Chandaneswar Shiva Temple, an active pilgrimage shrine that draws devotees from both Odisha and West Bengal. The surrounding village is simple: flower sellers, prasad stalls, pilgrims, auto-rickshaws, and the usual border-town bustle.
Chandaneshwar is best paired with the coast. Talasari Beach is close by, with tidal flats and fishing boats, while Digha's hotels and transport make the practical base. Come for the temple atmosphere, then move on; there is little reason to overnight here unless you are attending a festival.
