The most popular beach on the main island, Tanjung Gelam sits at the northwestern tip and is fringed by coconut palms that lean out over the water. The snorkelling is decent right off the beach. A handful of warungs sell drinks and simple food; otherwise it is mostly locals and independent travellers. Arrive early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat and have the best of the light.
