Diving and Snorkelling

Clear reefs, manta rays, and a Dutch shipwreck

The reefs around Karimunjawa offer conditions from beginner-friendly shallows to advanced drift dives. Popular sites include Manta Point, where cleaning stations sometimes attract manta rays, and the wreck of a Dutch cargo ship sitting in around 15 metres near the main island — encrusted with coral and inhabited by lionfish, moray eels, and schools of glassfish. The clearest water and healthiest coral is generally found on the outer islands: Geleang, Menjangan Besar, and the reefs north of Parang. Several dive operators on the main island offer PADI courses, equipment rental, and guided trips; most will tailor itineraries to your level and interests.
