Karimunjawa National Park

Protected marine park spanning 27 islands and pristine reefs

Established in 1988 and covering around 111,625 hectares of sea, reef, and land, Karimunjawa National Park is the framework within which all 27 islands sit. The protected status limits fishing, construction, and anchoring in key reef zones, which is why the reefs here remain in better condition than most of the Java Sea. Entry to the park requires a visitor fee, collected at the port on arrival. Rangers patrol the waters, and while enforcement is imperfect, the designation has helped preserve the ecosystems that make these islands worth visiting.
