The most rewarding way to get around Banjarmasin is by klotok — a traditional wooden motorboat that can be hired from the riverbanks near the city centre. For the floating markets and river islands, a klotok is essentially required; your guesthouse can arrange one including a driver for an early morning run. Expect to pay around 150,000–250,000 rupiah for a half-day trip.
Within the city, ojek (motorcycle taxis) and the ride-hailing app Grab are the practical options. Becak (cycle rickshaws) are common in quieter areas. For the journey to Martapura (gem market) or further afield, angkot minibuses run along the main road east of the city.
