Sabilal Muhtadin Grand Mosque

South Kalimantan's largest mosque on the Martapura River

The largest mosque in South Kalimantan and one of the most distinctive landmarks in Banjarmasin, the Sabilal Muhtadin Grand Mosque stands on the bank of the Martapura River in the heart of the city. Its large dome and minarets are visible from the water. Built in the 1980s, it can accommodate thousands of worshippers. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome outside of prayer times; dress modestly and remove shoes before entering. The riverside setting makes it particularly photogenic in the late afternoon light.
