The Sapta Ratna Pagoda is a bright red and gold seven-storey structure built into the hillside above Sorong's eastern outskirts. From the top floor there is a sweeping view across the city, the port, and the strait towards Salawati Island. The climb up the spiral staircase is the main appeal — the views are by far the best in Sorong.
The pagoda is part of the Vihara Buddhayana temple complex and is open to visitors, though donations are expected and modest dress is required. It is rarely busy outside of Chinese New Year. To get here, take a taxi or ojek from the centre; it is about ten minutes by road.
