A cluster of independent cafes has grown up around Jl. AP Pettarani and Jl. Somba Opu, serving single-origin Toraja and Enrekang arabica alongside standard espresso drinks. The interiors tend toward the photogenic — exposed brick, plants, dim lighting — and they fill up with students and young professionals from mid-afternoon onwards. This is a good place to escape the heat, try genuinely excellent local coffee, and watch Makassar's emerging urban culture. Most cafes also serve light food.
