When to Go

The dry season runs from April to October and is the best time to visit. Days are warm and mostly sunny, the seas are calm, and the Spermonde islands and Rammang-Rammang are easily accessible. November to March brings the wet season: heavy rain, high humidity, and rougher seas that can limit boat trips to the islands. The city itself functions year-round and there is no time when Makassar stops being worth visiting — the wet season just adds complications to day trips. Temperatures stay in the low-to-mid 30s throughout the year.
