A chain of six bridges built in the 1990s connecting Batam to the smaller islands of Tonton, Nipah, Setoko, Rempang and Galang. Driving the full Barelang Highway takes about an hour each way and is the closest thing Batam has to a scenic route. The first bridge — Tengku Fisabilillah, a 642-metre cable-stayed span — has become the unofficial symbol of the island and a popular spot for photos and grilled seafood at the stalls underneath.
