Eating Out

Eat seafood. Batam's reason to put a meal on the table is fresh seafood at a fraction of Singapore prices — go to the kelong (stilt-house) restaurants along the coast at Telaga Punggur and Sekupang, or the well-known seafood spots near the Barelang Bridges, and pick your fish from the tank. Beyond that, Nagoya has the usual mix of Indonesian warungs, Chinese restaurants, hotel buffets and the inevitable McDonald's and KFC. Indonesian-Muslim influence is strong, so during Ramadan the all-you-can-eat iftar buffets are an event in themselves.
