Kaolin Lake is a former kaolinite mining pit whose pale banks and bright blue water give it an almost unreal look. The contrast between white clay, turquoise water, and open sky makes it a popular photo stop near Tanjung Pandan.
It is a quick visit rather than a full outing, but it adds a different texture to Belitung's beach-heavy itinerary. The lake is best in clear light, when the colour of the water is strongest.
