Kepayang Island is one of the small island stops off Belitung's northwest coast, often combined with Lengkuas and the granite-boulder beaches around Tanjung Kelayang. It is not large, but it has the right ingredients for a relaxed island-hopping day: sand, clear water, and rounded rocks.
The island is also associated with turtle conservation, which gives a visit a little more purpose than another beach landing. Go as part of a boat circuit, and keep expectations simple: swimming, photos, a short wander, and time on the water.
