Restaurante Iran (Lalezar)

Lalezar Street was once the Champs-Élysées of Tehran — lined with cabarets, cinemas, restaurants, and hotels in the Pahlavi era. Most of that has been replaced or closed, but a few restaurants on and around Lalezar survive from that period, serving classical Persian cooking in rooms that retain something of their 1960s atmosphere: white tablecloths, dark wood, and a clientele that includes elderly Tehranis who have been coming here for decades.

The food is the Persian restaurant standard — grilled kebabs, rice dishes, stews — done with the care of a restaurant that has been doing the same thing for a long time. The atmosphere is the main draw. Worth finding for anyone interested in the pre-revolutionary city that occasionally surfaces like an archaeological layer beneath the contemporary one.
