Sofrehkhaneh Sonnati Sangalaj

Sofrehkhaneh Sonnati Sangalaj is a traditional-style restaurant in the old city that takes the form of a sofreh — a traditional Persian meal setting on floor-level cushions, low tables, and kilim rugs, with food served in the style of a domestic setting rather than a restaurant. The interior is a careful reconstruction of a 19th-century Tehran house, with tiled alcoves and arched niches holding copper vessels and old lanterns.

The food is deliberately traditional: stews (khoresht) made with ingredients that have been part of Persian cuisine for centuries, flatbreads baked on the premises, herb platters, and the full range of Persian rice preparations. It is a tourist-friendly setting but not a tourist-only one — many Tehranis bring visiting relatives or foreign business guests here specifically because it presents Iranian food culture well.
