Eating Out

Tehran has one of the most interesting food scenes in the Middle East — Iranian cooking is genuinely extraordinary, and the city's restaurants range from traditional dizi houses serving stews in clay pots to contemporary restaurants that pair Persian ingredients with modern techniques. The northern districts have the most variety; the bazaar area has the most character. As a Muslim-majority Islamic Republic, alcohol is not served in restaurants or publicly available, but the food more than compensates.
