Nomura Samurai Residence

Restored Nagamachi samurai house with rooms, armour, and a small garden in old Kanazawa.

Nomura Samurai Residence is one of the easiest places in Kanazawa to picture the old Nagamachi samurai district as a lived-in neighbourhood. The house belonged to a middle-ranking retainer family of the Maeda clan, and it still feels modest beside a palace but grand compared with an ordinary town house.

Inside are tatami rooms, family objects, armour, and views into a carefully composed garden. It is a good stop before or after wandering Nagamachi's earthen walls and narrow lanes.
