Asahiyama Memorial Park sits on the hills southwest of central Sapporo and is mainly about the view. From the terraces you can look back over the city grid toward the Ishikari Plain, a perspective that makes Sapporo's scale much easier to understand.
It is a simple, pleasant stop rather than a major sight. Come for cherry blossoms in spring, a picnic in good weather, or the evening city lights; in winter, check access and footing before assuming it will be an easy stroll.
