Mount Moiwa is Sapporo's easiest big-view escape, rising just southwest of the city centre. The ropeway and mini cable car take most of the effort out of the climb, leaving you with a broad view over the grid of Sapporo and the surrounding Hokkaido hills.
Go near dusk if the weather is clear. Daylight helps you read the city, but the night view is the reason many locals and visitors make the trip, with the lights spreading across the Ishikari plain below the summit.
