Japan's oldest post office building still in active use, a handsome two-storey brick Renaissance Revival structure built in 1900 to house the Akamagaseki Postal Telegraph Office. Designed by Mitsuhashi Shiro, it is a registered tangible cultural property — and you can still post a letter from it. The red postbox out front is an original Meiji-era design. Easy to miss if you're not looking, but worth seeking out in the Karato waterfront district.
