A famous old udon shop on the eastern outskirts of Takamatsu, in a converted nineteenth-century farmhouse surrounded by gardens. It is one of the destinations on the local "udon taxi" route — drivers will take you to a chosen list of noodle shops in the morning — and many visitors think it the most atmospheric place to eat sanuki udon. The kake udon with a side of tempura is the standard order.
The setting is the main reason to make the trip; the noodles are good but not necessarily better than half a dozen smaller shops in town. Closed Tuesdays; lunch hours only.
